چکیده

Background Inflammation is a response to external challenge or cellular injury that leads to the release of several inflammatory mediators and restoration of tissue structure and function. On the other hand, inflammation deregulation can cause tissue damage and is related to many diseases. During inflammation, a complex program of intracellular signal transduction and transcription events, driven by multiple pro-inflammatory mediators and cytokines, is activated. Ouabain, a potent inhibitor of the Na, K-ATPase, was identified as an endogenous substance of human plasma, able to affect various immunological processes, such as lymphocyte proliferation, apoptosis and monocyte function. These effects are particularly attractive for anti-inflamatory molecules bioprospection. We have also demonstrated the ability of ouabain to modulate inflammation, but little is known about the mechanisms involved.

Effect of Sodium Valproate on Ouabain-Induced Arrhythmia in Isolated Guinea-Pig Atria

Sodium valproate (SV), an antiepileptic drug has several mechanism of action. It inhibits voltage sensitive Na+ channels and reduces intracellular Na accumulation. These actions are similar to that of both phenytoin and carbamazepine. We have investigated the direct cardiac action of SV and its effects on ouabain-induced arrhythmia in isolated guinea-pig atria. The guinea-pig atrium was dissect...

O-13: Na+/K+-ATPase Alpha1 Isoform Mediates Ouabain-Induced Expression of Cyclin D1 and Proliferation of Rat Sertoli Cells

Background: Novel roles for the interaction of cardiotonic steroids to Na+/K+-ATPase have been established in recent years. The aim of the present study was to investigate the intracellular signaling events downstream the action of ouabain on Na+/K+-ATPase in Sertoli cell obtained from immature rats. Treatment of Sertoli cells with ouabain (1 μM) induced a rapid and transient increase in the ex...

Comparision of the effects of Leishmania Soluble Antigen (LSA) and Lipopolysaccharide (LPS) on C57BL/6 Mice Macrophage Function

Background: Macrophages activation is the important anti-leishmania immune response. Different signals could affect macrophages development and functional activation. Objectives: In the present study, we compared the effect of Leishmania Soluble Antigen (LSA)and Lipopolysaccharide (LPS) on peritoneal macrophage responses. Appropriate activation of macrophages depends on thesignals they receive ...

اثر سیتالوپرام در جلوگیری از مسمومیت ناشی از اوابائین در دهلیز مجزای خوکچه هندی

Background: The role of citalopram (a tricyclic antidepressant of SSRI group) on ouabain-induced arrhythmia in guinea pig was well established. Materials and methods: Thirty-two guinea pigs were randomly assigned in any of the four groups citalopram, ouabain, citalopram+ouabain, and control. The Na, K, and Ca concentrations were measured using atomic absorption technique. Results: Citalopram ...

Effect of ouabain on submandibular salivary gland and level of zinc and copper in saliva and serum in rat

In this study, the effect of various doses of ouabain (1, 2, and 5 mg/kg, i.p.) on weight and flow rate of submandibular gland (SMG) and changes in zinc and copper levels in pure saliva and serum of rats was investigated. The time interval between injection of drug and sampling was 30 min. In addition, the effect of a single and toxic dose of ouabain (5 mg/kg, i.p.) in various time intervals (3...
